The Church of St. Joseph

The Church was realized from a design and project of the architect Giuseppe Vincenzo Vicari, and various innovations introduced rouse considerable attention. Its form is a Latin cross, with the bell tower incorporated into the main façade, and on the outside, at the side, two small cloisters delimited by a double arcade.

On the architrave of the central entrance there is a decorative panel in the lunette in ceramic representing a young fascist (Maria Luisa Letta) and an avantgardist (Adolfo Letta) in the act of offering the Church to God. Above the lunette, in correspondence with the central part of the Bell Tower, there is a magnificent stained-glass window like organ-pipes.

The lunette in ceramic, attributable to Augusto Chini, and the window, carried out by Tito Chini, were both realized at the Manufacturing in Borgo San Lorenzo.

The most significant characteristic of the Church is the stained-glass windows. In fact, these emerge as the most beautiful and original ornament carried out by Tito Chini, and include 18 large lateral windows and 2 enormous triple lancet windows near the two arms of the transept.

The first fourteen windows portray the stages of the Via Crucis, with processions of praying angels, while the two triple lancet windows portray the Annunciation and the Offering. This latter allegorical window, called the Offering, tries to express rebirth through sacrifice, while at the two sides the sons of the donor renew the offer, already announced beforehand in the lunette of the entrance.
